Genesis Project Reaches Milestone, Serving One Millionth Meal
By Savanna Mahaffey
In an extraordinary display of compassion and dedication, The Genesis Project recently celebrated a momentous milestone by serving their one millionth meal to the community. This remarkable achievement underscores the unwavering commitment of Trinity, the heart and soul behind Genesis, in providing essential support to those in need.
Genesis Project, more than just a meal provider, is a beacon of hope for the homeless and hungry in Phoenix. They offer a comprehensive resource center that goes beyond addressing hunger. In addition to hot, nutritious meals, their resource center provides relief from extreme weather conditions, clothing, hygiene products, shower vouchers, job assistance, and more.
In recent times, Genesis Project has witnessed a growing number of elderly individuals seeking assistance. Rising rent prices and reduced food stamp benefits have left them facing difficult choices between rent, utilities, medication, and food. Trinity, the driving force behind Genesis, is determined to ensure that food is not a choice they should ever have to make.
One unique aspect of Genesis Project is Trinity’s personal touch. She knows every guest by name, and her only requirement for assistance is to come hungry. This personal connection fosters a sense of belonging and dignity for those often marginalized by society.
With an astounding level of community support, Genesis Project typically assembles six dedicated volunteer teams each week. Their admirable commitment to serving those in need is so overwhelming that the facility cannot accommodate everyone indoors. To efficiently meet the demand, Genesis Project utilizes a well-organized serving window system. Visitors queue up, and volunteers diligently distribute meals, allowing each individual to choose between a comforting PB&J sandwich or a slice of pizza to sustain them until the Genesis Project reopens its doors the following day. This thoughtful approach ensures that no one leaves empty-handed and that the warmth of a meal extends beyond the confines of the facility.
If you’re looking to contribute, Genesis Project welcomes donations of gently-used adult clothing and unopened, unexpired food. You can also become a part of the volunteer team by signing up for slots Monday through Friday between 10 am and 2 pm.
The highlight of the recent celebration was the millionth meal served to a lady named Starr Oliver. She expressed her gratitude, saying, “Luck is good, but blessed is much better!” Starr’s sentiment captures the essence of Genesis Project – a place where blessings abound, and hope is found in every meal served.
Genesis Project’s mission is to provide hope to the community through meals, resources, connections, and education. They serve hot meals every day from Sunday to Friday between 12 pm and 2 pm, offer essential clothing items through their Clothing Closet, provide shower vouchers on Wednesdays from 12 pm to 2 pm, and connect individuals to a range of social services through Navigator Services.
This heartwarming initiative is made possible by over 120 dedicated volunteers known as “Team Genesis.” They plan, prepare, and serve meals cooked from scratch in a full commercial kitchen.
